"One in Catalonia, another in Huesca and a third in Cáceres, the three villages in Spain are among the most highly recommended on the planet".
Spain has many places that deserve to be visited and admired for their natural, historical and cultural wealth. Some of them are so spectacular that they have been recognised by the World Tourism Organisation as the best villages in the world.
The World Tourism Organisation has drawn up a list of the world's best villages, based on a number of criteria, including the beauty of the place, its natural resources, its historical and cultural heritage, and its respect for the environment.
At the top of the list is Rupit, a village in Catalonia that seems to have emerged from another era. Rupit is characterised by its mountainous landscape, cobbled streets, stone houses and medieval atmosphere. In fact, it's particularly worth visiting in autumn for its incredible scenery. The village is home to Sant Miquel church, Rupit castle, the suspension bridge and Can Badaire bridge, among others.
Two other towns in our country also feature on the list. One of them is Alquézar, in Huesca, located in the Somontano de Barbastro region, famous for its Sierra and Cañones de Guara Natural Park. Not far from Alquézar is Aínsa, the most beautiful village in Spain according to National Geographic.
The other Spanish village on the list is Guadalupe, in Cáceres, where you can visit the 14th-century Church of Our Lady, the Mudejar cloister, the chapter house and the Camarín de la Virgen, among others.
These are, of course, three of our country's undisputed wonders that are well worth a visit
